After a two-year hiatus, the American Music Awards are returning to Los Angeles thanks to a new broadcasting partnership with CBS. When Are the 2025 AMAs?

In August 2024, media outlets announced that the AMAs will return in 2025 thanks to a new broadcasting deal with CBS. However, they won’t return to their usual slot in November. Instead, the event is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2025 .

Why Were the AMAs Cancelled in 2023 and 2024?

After delivering pure entertainment for 50 years, the AMAs hit a little snag. Due to a scheduling change involving the Billboard Music Awards (another Dick Clark Production), the 2023 AMAs were bumped from their usual spot in November. Originally, the award shows was tentatively rescheduled for November 2024, but things fell though again as DCP was searching for a new buyer for the event’s media and broadcasting rights. After two years, things are finally back on track!

Highlights From the 2022 AMAs

Wow! The 2022 American Music Awards were all that and a bag of chips, weren’t they? Fans were treated to performances from more than a dozen of today’s top hitmakers. Here are some more fun facts about the AMAs.

• The American Music Awards are officially the largest fan-voted music award show.

• The AMAs recognize winners across multiple genres and nearly three dozen categories.

• Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson are the all-time award leaders with 40 and 26 AMAs respectively.

• The award show also hands out special milestone awards, such as performer of the decade or lifetime achievement.

In 2022, big winners included Taylor Swift for Artist of the Year and Favorite Female Pop Artist. Harry Styles won Favorite Male Pop Artist. Dua Lipa and Elton John took home awards for best collaboration for “Cold Heart, PNAU Remix.” Other nominees for Artist of the Year include Adele, Bad Bunny, Beyonce, Drake and Harry Styles.
